HYDERABAD, FEB. 8. Corporations and municipalities will be eligible to get assistance under the World Bank-aided Urban Reforms & Municipal Services Project only if they show tax collections to the tune of 75 per cent. The project, which will get Rs. 1,360 crores from the Bank routed through the Central Government at 9 per cent interest, was approved by the Cabinet at its meeting here today. A Government spokesman later said the municipal bodies would also have to take up projects to improve their revenues and establish their creditworthiness by clearing the annual debt burden towards HUDCO and other agencies.
As of now, eight municipal bodies which did not show 75 per cent collections were identified as ineligible. They were Anakapalle, Kadiri, Narasaraopet, Chittoor, Bhongir, Medak, Siddipet and Bodhan.
Court proposal cleared
The Cabinet also cleared the proposal made by the High Court to enhance the appellate side jurisdiction of Chief Judge/district judges in the State to Rs. 5 lakhs from Rs. 3 lakhs by amending the Civil Courts Act of 1972.
