NALGONDA, FEB.8. Blaming the Congress and Telugu Desam for ''the criminalisation of politics,'' the Communist Party of India (CPI) has asked both parties to keep at bay criminals and factionists. In a resolution passed on the penultimate day of the party's State conference here, it said: "The Congress and the TDP are responsible for the escalation of organised crime, political killings, bomb culture and factionism. These parties are giving protection to anti-social elements. Criminal as well as selfish politics is continuing in the State due the direct and indirect support being extended to the unscrupulous elements,'' it observed. The former MLA, Ramakrishna, who released the resolutions to the media, demanded that the Government implement the report submitted by a 17-member committee headed by G. Shyam Sundar Sivaji last year. "The committee toured all faction-ridden districts and submitted an excellent report,'' he added. By another resolution, the party suggested that the Government acquire all types of lands and distribute the same among the poor in a time-bound manner. "The Government is distributing land as demanded by the left parties, agricultural unions and the Maoists,'' it said, observing that over 50 lakh acres would be available for distribution. The CPI appealed to the Government to take necessary steps to provide 5 per cent reservation for Mulisms in educational institutions and jobs by the next academic year. The CPI also demanded reservation in the private sector.
`People unhappy'
Mr. Ramakrishna said people were not happy with the functioning of the Rajasekhara Reddy Government. ``Due to lack of clarity in the policies being adopted by the Government, people are increasingly annoyed,'' he said. Though there was a marked improvement in the situation with regard to agriculture, the changes in the free power policy had created confusion among ryots, he said, quoting speakers at the convention. Referring to the killing of the TDP MLA, Paritala Ravindra, he said the issue had affected the image of the Government.
