SAARC website missing
By Our Diplomatic Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 8.
"The page cannot be found ... the page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." You'll get this message on your computer screen if you try and log on to www.saarc-sec.org, the official website of the Kathmandu-based South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Secretariat.
The SAARC website became unavailable after the "royal coup" of February 1 when King Gyanendra sacked the Sher Bahadur Deuba Government and took over direct control of the Nepalese State. All internet and telephone services went down that day.
Though a PTI report from Kathmandu claimed today that telephone and internet services had been restored, the SAARC Secretariat website still could not be accessed till late this evening.
With internet and telephone services becoming the lifeline of a nation to the outside world, it is not surprising that the SAARC Secretariat along with a large number of Nepalese websites had become a "no-go area" on the internet.
