CHENNAI, FEB. 8. Tamil Nadu defeated Goa by 281 runs on Tuesday to triumph in the P. Ramachandra Rao under-22 tournament for South Zone. The host completed its engagements with 14 points, while Hyderabad, which took the lead against Karnataka, finished with 11. Both teams qualified for the C.K. Nayudu all India under-22 Trophy from South Zone. Left-arm spinner R. Rajesh took six for 63 as Goa was dismissed for 179 in its second innings, nine minutes before tea. For Goa, Anup Kolambkar scored 47, and Robin D' Souza rattled up a hectic 45 off only 24 deliveries (8x4, 2x6). Tamil Nadu had declared at its overnight score of 317 for five, setting the visiting side a target of 461. Goa failed to secure a point in the competition. Karnataka, resuming at 62 for three replying to Hyderabad's 515 for eight declared, was bowled out for 357, with Stuart Binny top-scoring with an 128-ball 142 (18x4, 3x6). Vinayak Uthappa made 52 (57b, 7x4). Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha, during his six for 140, registered his fifth five-wicket innings haul of this edition. He took 38 wickets in the tournament. Karnataka took the third spot with eight points. Chasing 301 for victory in 74 overs, Andhra, which had been shot out for 78 in the first innings, reached 261 for eight when the stumps were drawn. J.T. Yadav notched up 70 (156b, 8x4), Laksman Kishore 40, and Y. Gyaneswara Rao 41. Earlier, Kerala, beginning the day at 91 for four, declared at 151 for six, with captain V.A. Jagadish remaining unbeaten on 77 (106b, 5x4). Kerala took the fourth spot with seven points and Andhra, fifth, with five. The points tally: 1. Tamil Nadu 14; 2. Hyderabad 11; 3. Karnataka 8; 4. Kerala 7; 5. Andhra 5; 6. Goa 0.

Hyderabad 515 for eight decl. & 92 for four in 23 overs drew with Karnataka 357 in 80.5 overs (Stuart Binny 142, Vinayak Uthappa 52, Pragyan Ojha six for 140), at SPIC-YMCA. Hyderabad 2, Karnataka 0.
Kerala 227 & 151 for six decl. in 42 overs (V. A. Jagadish 77) drew with Andhra 78 & 261 for eight in 74 overs (J.T.Yadav 70, Lakshman Kishore 40, Y. Gyaneswara Rao 41), at Viveka-SICAL. Kerala 2, Andhra 0.
