Indian colts win first one-dayer

AGARTALA, FEB. 8. The Indian colts defeated England under-19 by 46 runs in the opening encounter of their five-match limited-overs series at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium here on Tuesday.

G. Dhiman was adjudged `man of the match' for his all-round display (43 & two for 58).

Opting to bat, partnerships of 62 for the second wicket between Dhiman and opener S. Marathe (27), 71 for the fourth between M. Tewari (46) and M. Tehlan (51), 54 for the next between Tehlan and R. Shukla (33) and 46 for the eighth between P. Chawla (32) ands A.G. Pradeep (28 not out) took India to a big total.

The visitor was off to a bad start and was reduced to 81 for six by the 21st over. The 87-run stand for the seventh wicket between M. M. Ali (57) and T. C. Smith (56) was the lone bright spot of the innings.

The scores: India under-19 299 for nine in 50 overs (G. Dhiman 43, M. Tewari 46, M. Tehlan 51) bt England under-19 253 in 46.4 overs (M. M. Ali 57, T. C. Smith 56).
