NAGERCOIL, FEB. 8. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has urged the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to launch agitations against the Centre's "anti-people" policies. This resolution was passed at the recent State-level CPI(M) conference here. As the United Progressive Alliance Government continued to follow the policies of economic liberalisation adopted by the National Democratic Alliance and failed to implement what was stated in the Common Minimum Programme the party urged the coalition partners to launch agitations mobilising people's support. The UPA Government agreed at a Cabinet meeting not to increase the FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) cap in the telecom and financial sectors. But the Government diluted the Common Minimum Programme, to increase the FDI cap in both sectors, the resolution said.. Another resolution said though the ruling All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam suffered a setback in the last Lok Sabha election, its Government continued to implement ``anti-people policies.'' The law and order situation deteriorated, ``evident from the increasing harassment of women day by day.'' The CPI(M) would ensure communal harmony in the State by defeating the plan of Hindutva forces to ``derive political mileage by organising communal riots'', said another resolution.
