THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 8. West Bengal, CRPF, Assam Rifles and Gujarat moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the 53rd B. N. Mullik memorial all-India Police football tournament here on Tuesday. West Bengal topped Cluster IV with an all-win record, defeating Tripura 3-0, while Assam Rifles ensured its place in last 16 with a 4-1 verdict over Goa. It plays lowly Mizoram in its last league match and even a defeat will not hamper its chances. CRPF maintained its unbeaten record in Cluster III with a solitary goal win over Karnataka. However, Gujarat should count itself lucky after it qualified from Cluster VI as the second-best side. Kerala qualified from this Cluster by winning all its matches. Andhra Pradesh, which needed a big victory to qualify, could only manage a 1-0 win over Gujarat. Andhra's victory brought a three-way tie for the second spot, but Gujarat made the grade on better goal average compared to Andhra and Uttaranchal. Tamil Nadu stayed in the hunt for a pre-quarterfinal berth, holding Assam to a 1-1 draw.
