CHAMARAJANAGAR, FEB. 8. The circle general manager, Canara Bank, K. Appanaiah, has said that crop loans for Rs. 200 crores will be disbursed till the end of March from the bank's Bangalore circle. He was speaking after sanctioning tractor loans to 60 farmers at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee yard here on Monday. Mr. Appanaiah said that Rs. 1,000 crores had been distributed to farmers coming under the purview of the Canara Bank, Bangalore circle. He called upon farmers to utilise the different loan schemes to become self-reliant. The AGM of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Raghupathi, said that the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, had directed all banks to double the credit flow to agriculture sector within three years. He appreciated the service provided by the bank's Chamarajanagar branch. The branch has distributed tractor loans to 100 farmers in nine months, he said. The branch manager, H.V. Nagendra, said that the bank had distributed Rs. 7.43 crores as loans for agriculture in 2004-05. He said that the bank had secured the top position in the district by distributing crop loans for Rs. 11.74 crores till the end of January. He also said that the bank had distributed Rs. 30 lakhs to 20 Stree Shakti groups and Rs. 3.5 lakhs to eight persons under the Prime Minister's Rozgar Yojana. Farmers who had repaid tractor loans of Rs. 25,000 on time were felicitated.
