CPI(M) condemns killing of naxals

By Our Staff Correspondent

MYSORE, FEB. 8. The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Mysore District Committee, has said that citizens should seriously ponder over the issue of encounter killing of naxals in Kudremukh forest area.

In a press release issued here, the secretary, N.S. Prabhakar, said that instead of launching an armed struggle that took a toll on young lives, the democratic movement should be strengthened.

He appealed to the people to pressure the Government to implement more pro-people programmes, such as land reforms. He also urged them to pressure the naxalites and dissuade them from adventurist activities in the State in the future.

He said that the Government should also give priority to provide land to the landless and stop the eviction of tribals and other sections of society from the forest area.

The issues of providing adequate compensation to those displaced owing to developmental works, provision of housing and employment should also be taken up seriously, Mr. Prabhakar said in the release.
