KOLLAM, FEB. 8. Sleuths from the Chathannur Excise circle today seized 7.5 kg of ganja from a woman who arrived by train at the Sasthamcotta railway station last night. The woman, a native of Kottarakara, has been arrested. She was identified as Sheeba, 28. An autorickshaw driver waiting with his vehicle to pick up Sheeba was also arrested from the railway station premises. He has been identified as Shiyaz, 20, also a native of Kottarakara. The Excise inspector, B. Suresh, who led the team, said the arrests and the seizure were made following information provided by the Additional Excise Commissioner, Paul Leslie. He said the seized ganja was estimated at Rs. 3 lakh in the dope market.
Plan
Sheeba was allegedly working as a carrier for a Kottarakara-based drug peddler, Shukoor. The ganja she had in her possession was brought from Anhapally in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Suresh said that an Anhapally-Kollam railway ticket was also seized from her. On Monday, while returning from Anhapally, Sheeba alighted at Eranakulam and boarded a passenger train. As per the plan, the autorickshaw was to pick up Sheeba from Sasthamcotta and take her to Kottarakara. The ganja was concealed in a box. The Excise sleuths are now on the look out for Shukoor.
