WARANGAL, FEB. 8. The bandh call by the CPI (ML) Maoist party evoked a mixed response in the urban areas, while it was total and peaceful in the agency areas of the district. The coal mining area in Singareni, Bhupalpalli mandal, was affected with the workers abstaining from duties and the RTC withdrawing all services to the rural areas of the district. All the offices and establishments remained closed in Bhupalpalli, Eturunagaram, Mulug, Pasra, Parkal, Govindraopet, Mangapet, Tadvai and other agency mandals. Banks, Government offices, schools and shops were closed. Traders volunteered to observe the bandh to prevent any untoward incident. Even private transport operators suspended their operations in rural pockets.
Mixed response
However, in Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Station Ghanpur, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Kazipet and other mandals, the bandh call evoked a mixed response. Only a few establishments and schools were closed, while banks and cinema theatres functioned normally. The Maoists called for a bandh, protesting against what they called `fake encounters' and went on a rampage on Monday blasting the MPDO office at Govindaraopet mandal and torching an RTC bus in Bhupalpalli mandal. The district police made elaborate security arrangements across the district and conducted vehicle checks all over the towns and at entry points of the district. ADILABAD: The bandh evoked a mixed response in Adilabad district with the eastern side where the Singareni coal mines are located being partially affected by it. There was hardly any effect of the bandh in the western part including Nirmal, Bhainsa, Utnoor and the district headquarters of Adilabad. In Vempalli village of Sirpur (T), Maoists burnt a conveyor belt at a private brick unit, it is learnt. In Mancherial and Bellampalli police sub divisions, cinemas and some educational institutions remained closed. A curious thing was the shutdown of coalmines for different reasons. Police say that the Srirampur mines did not function as miners went on strike demanding implementation of the 7th wage board. In other areas, the miners abstained from work in protest against the killing of the Singareni INTUC leader Boddu Ramaswamy. Meanwhile, the Maoists' bandh was partial in Karimnagar district. There was no impact of the bandh in Karimnagar and other towns except for the Godavarikhani coal belt region. All shops, business establishments, hotels, banks, educational institutions, etc. were closed. The bandh was also near total in the Mahadevpur forest region. The RTC curtailed its services in the interior regions.
