Corporation serves tax notices

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, FEB. 8. The Corporation of Chennai has prepared arrear demand notices for all properties by calculating the arrears up to the payment made on or before August 31. They are being delivered through the Postal department.

A Corporation press release said that if any payment made before August 31 last year has not been accounted for in the demand notice or if it required any other correction, the property owners are requested to furnish the information to the Revenue Officer, Ripon Buildings or to the Zonal Assistant Revenue Officers concerned for rectification.

The payments made after August 31 are being updated. The assessees who have paid dues after August 31 may ignore the notice. However, those who have dues and have not paid the tax so far should pay it immediately to avoid legal action. They should not wait for the Tax Collector's visit.

The demand notices are accompanied by Electronic Clearance Services Mandate Form for payment of property tax once in six months.

Property owners can avail the opportunity and forward the ECS Mandate form to the Corporation of Chennai. By availing ECS facility, the banker of the assessee will pay the property tax by debiting from the account of the assessee on due date.
