MANGALORE, FEB. 8. The Amrutha Sangeetha Sabha, Mangalore, is set to celebrate its golden jubilee here on Sunday. Founded by late U. Srinivas Mallya, it is a coincidence that the sabha is holding the jubilee towards the end of his centenary year. B.R. Bhat, sabha chairman, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the sabha has made arrangements to observe the milestone in a befitting manner. Ananthakrishna, Chairman of The Karnataka Bank Ltd., will inaugurate the year-long celebrations. R.K. Madhukar, General Manager of Canara Bank, Circle Office, Mangalore, will felicitate Madhava Gudi of Mumbai, a disciple of Bhimsen Joshi. Mr. Gudi will present a programme, "Santavani Bhajan Sandhya", on the occasion. Upendra Bhat, Prasanna Gudi, Vyasa Murthy (harmonium), Ravindra Yavagal, Ranga Pai, Manipal (tabla) and Rangini (tala-vadya) will be accompanists. Mr. Bhat said Ramesh Master, music teacher and a peer of Srinivas Mallya and one of the co-founders of the sabha, will be felicitated on the occasion. The sabha will organise music concerts throughout the year, conduct special classes in schools to popularise classical music, hold competitions to attract youth towards music, and distribute musical instruments to poor students. He said members of the public can take annual or lifetime membership or become donors of the sabha. Details may be had from the sabha secretary, B. Tanoji Rao (ph: 93435-60931), Mr. Bhat added.
