UDUPI, FEB. 8. The Left parties and trade unions affiliated to them staged a demonstration in front of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. telephone exchange here on Monday in protest against the Centre's decision to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) cap in the telecom sector to 74 per cent. Nityananda Swami, Communist Party of India (CPI- M), State Executive Committee member, said the Centre's decision to increase the FDI cap in the telecom sector will affect the Defence sector. Vishwanath Rai, general secretary of the district unit of Centre for Indian Trade Unions; and K. Shankar, secretary of the CPI(M) district unit, were present. The members of the Udupi division of Insurance Employees Union also participated in the protest.
