UDUPI, FEB. 8. The Superintendent of Police, S. Murugan, said on Tuesday that the police is equipped to deal with any threat from naxalites. Mr. Murugan told presspersons here that combing operations are on in the district after the Menasinahadya encounter. The police are checking vehicles and have put up pickets in Karkala and Kundapur taluks. The police stations in these areas have been alerted. Asked if the Shankarnarayana Police Station in the district has been equipped to deal with any situation, he said all police stations have been equipped and trained to face any emergency situation even before the recent encounter. All police stations in the area have been provided with an automatic weapon. Some of the naxalites are said to be carrying the AK-47 rifles and self-loading rifles. A platoon of 30 strong anti-terrorist squad armed with SLRs has been pressed into service in the district.
