Man killed in accident

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, FEB. 8.FEB. 8.FEB. 8 A man was killed when the van by which he was travelling and a bus collided at Mijar in Bajpe Police Station limits on Tuesday.

The police gave the name of the victim as Abdul Latif (55). He was taken to a private hospital at Moodbidri and later shifted to another private hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The Bajpe police have registered a case.

Tar spills on road

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, FEB. 8.FEB. 8.FEB. 8 A timber-laden lorry rammed a stationary lorry that was loaded with tar on Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway 48 at Kannur check-post on Monday night. The tar spilled on the road, disrupting vehicular traffic on the highway.

The police said timber was protruding from the lorry and hit the stationary lorry.

The Mangalore Rural (Kankanady) police have registered a case.

Sweekar Awards

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, FEB. 8.FEB. 8.FEB. 8 The Sweekar Sahitya Samskruthika Koota here is organising its second anniversary at the Town Hall on February 27. A press note from A. Shivananda Karkera, koota founder, said the Sweekar Award consisting of a purse of Rs. 3,000 will be presented to a senior infirm artiste on the occasion. The name of the recipient will be announced soon. Karnikada Daiva Vaidyanatha written by Mr. Karkera will be released on the occasion.

Entries invited

MANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALOREMANGALORE, FEB. 8.FEB. 8.FEB. 8 Applications are invited for the Vishnukumar Award given by Yuvavahini Central Committee for Kannada Poems. Candidates have to send three copies of their work, which have not been selected for any other award. The writer of the selected work will be given a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 and a certificate.
