Fall in humidity

Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 31.7 degrees Celsius and minimum of 18.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Humidity, which was recorded at 91 per cent in the morning, fell to 58 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

Following were the prices (in rupees per kg) of essential commodities in the local wholesale market on Tuesday: Groundnut oil - 48.50, palmolein oil - 37, sunflower oil - 47.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 25 to 26, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 35 to 40, chillies (refrigerated) - 20 to 26, chillies - 18 to20, rice (2716) - 12, rice superfine - 13, Samba Masoori 14 to15, Sona Masoori - 16 to 17, black gram (pottu minapappu) - 18 to 24, red gram desavali (kandipappu) - 21, Pandiripalem - 22.50, Nagpur 25.

BSNL recharge coupons

BSNL's Excel prepaid cellphone card recharge coupons will be available at all STD PCOs and PCOs being operation by physically challenged in Krishna district. The PCO operators should purchase recharge coupons worth a minimum of Rs. 10,000. A commission of five per cent would be given on face value only because the sale price included a service tax of 10.2 per cent. Enquires could be made on phone no. 0866-2444489.

Doctor feted

City cardiologist, T.V.A.S. Sarma, was recently conferred the Fellowship of Indian College of Physicians (F.I.C.P.). Dr. Sarma is an active member of the Indian Medical Association and was the first physician in the private sector to start an intensive care coronary unit at the TVS Clinic here.

Gunadala festival

The responsibility of parents to put children on the right path was stressed in the sermon delivered by Fr. Dara Balaswami of Nagayalanka parish at the eighth day of the nine-day Gunadala Matha festival. Thousands of pilgrims lit candles and offered prayers at the Gunadala Mary shrine on Tuesday.

Fr. Balaswami said parents should emulate Mary the ideal mother who taught values to Jesus Christ. The Gunadala Matha shrine rector, Fr. P.Joachim, performed prayers at the shrine.
