By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, FEB. 8. The police on Tuesday arrested two accused persons in the alleged gangrape and murder of a 25-year-old Scheduled Caste woman on January 29. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Guntur Rural), B. Gurucharandas, told reporters that two others were absconding. The police earlier had registered a case of suspicious death after the body was found in a ditch along the Amaravathi-Viakunthapuram road.
Accosted
The woman, a pan shop owner in Endrai village, went to Amaravathi to attend a religious convention. While she was walking to the convention venue in the night, Chilaka Sambasiva Rao (27), autorickshaw owner, and Kambampati Gopalarao (25), autorickshaw driver, accosted her. They took her to a nearby shop run by Thota Ananda Kumar (27), who along with his friend, Peddaboina Balaiah (27), allegedly raped her. The arrested persons told the police that they dumped the body in the ditch to avoid being caught.
Reward handed over
Meanwhile, the Tadikonda Member of the Legislative Assembly, Dokka Manikya Varaprasad, who had announced a cash reward of Rs. 10,000 for nabbing the culprits, handed over the money to the police.
