Temperature

TIRUCHI, FEB. 8. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 31.8 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature is 19.6 degree Celsius.

Three passengers

injured

Three passengers were injured when a bus dashed against a tree on the Tiruchi-Dindigul road at Vannankoil on Monday. The State Transport Corporation bus was on its way to Tiruchi from Dindigul when the accident occurred. The Ramji Nagar police have registered a case. The bus driver Kanikaraj (43) of Mannachanallur was arrested, the police here said.

Boy hurt

A nine-year-old boy was injured when a two-wheeler hit him on the Kuzhumani main road on Monday.

Manikandan, student of Standard III in a panchayat union school at Kuzhumani, was proceeding to the school when the accident occurred. The boy was admitted to the Government Hospital, Tiruchi. The Jeeyapuram police have registered a case.

TNSTC staff's donation

Drivers, conductors and technical staff attached to the Thuraiyur branch of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Kumbakonam) Ltd. have donated Rs.34,000 towards the tsunami relief fund.

Trade union representatives of the Thuraiyur branch gave the demand draft for the amount to the Secretary, Transport Department, R. Karpoorasundarapandian, recently. The managing director, TNSTC (Kumbakonam), V. Dravidamani, and the general manager, Tiruchi Divison, K. Moorthy were present.

Subsidy given

As many as 35 physically challenged persons were given subsidy to the tune of Rs. 70,000 under the Self-Employment Scheme for the Disabled at the Collectorate here on Monday.

The Collector, V. Pandian, handed over the amount to the beneficiaries at a grievances day meeting. The nationalised banks have come forward to sanction Rs. 10,000 to each one of the beneficiaries as loan to enable them take up self-employment activity, according to Joseph Xavier, District Rehabilitation Officer. The Collector also presented tri-cycles to two other beneficiaries.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 55.29 feet today. The inflow was 150 cusecs and the discharge nil.
