Residential school for child workers

By our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, FEB. 8. A residential school has been started for rehabilitated child workers at Anamalai in the district.

Started with funds under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and run by the Kovai Child Labour Abolition Support Society (CLASS), the centre has 44 students.

Most of them are rehabilitated child workers aged between eight and 11 and will be trained at the school for six months.

Kovai CLASS sources said that totally 10 such schools were planned in the district for the rehabilitated child workers.

Most of these will be located in Tirupur Division and one would be opened near Perur this week.

These schools provided food and learning materials free of cost to the children.

After six months, they would be helped to join regular schools that have hostel facilities.

Vocational training would be imparted in making paper bags and soft toys.
