Fake rubber stamp racket busted

Forged rubber stamps seized by the Coimbatore City Police.

COIMBATORE, FEB. 8. The Coimbatore City Police have busted a fake rubber stamp-cum-forged document racket and seized more than 20 forged rubber stamps meant for official use from four persons.

Following a complaint from a ministerial staff in the subordinate judiciary, the City Police began a probe. The court staff had expressed doubts about the possibility of the documents and rubber stamps being forged when an accused moved for bail in a criminal case.

According to police, Arumugam (40), Meeran Bai (35), Balachandran (48) and Natarajan (57) near Avanashi had furnished documents for executing surety for a crime case accused Senthil alias Senthilkumar of Kavundampalayam who had moved a bail plea before the High Court. The forging of rubber stamps and documents came to light when the documents were taken up for scrutiny with the authorities concerned.

The authorities detected fake rubber stamps of Village Administrative Officers, Revenue Inspectors and tahsildars used in the documents furnished for surety. The police took all the four into custody on charges of forging Government records and have begun investigations.

The investigation was likely to lead to the arrest of a few more persons suspected to be involved in the scam, police said. Revenue officials were also inquiring whether these forged papers relating to the revenue departments and the rubber stamps were used for issuing certificates.
