VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 8. The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Committee on Government Assurances, E. Pratap Reddy, has directed officials look into land encroachments in the district and submit a report in three months. Addressing a review meeting at the Collectorate here on Tuesday, he said maximum encroachments pertained to endowment and inam lands at Simhachalam, Padmanabham, Gajuwaka and Madugula. Three issues pertaining to Simhachalam lands would be discussed on Wednesday, he said. He gave details of the lands under the purview of Ananta Padmanabha Swami temple at Padmanabham and of the lands at Gajuwaka.
Visakha Dairy muddle
He said an enquiry would be conducted into the alleged embezzlement of funds and misuse of assets in Visakha Dairy. The committee members -- Kotla Sujathamma, Jalagam Venkata Rao, T. Gurumurthy Reddy, T. Jayaprakash, Chirala Jaggi Reddy, Peethani Satyanarayana and Nomula Narasimhaiah -- the Collector, Praveen Prakash, the Girijan Cooperative Corporation Managing Director, A. Vidyasagar, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Vice-Chairman, Varaprasad, the ITDA Project Officer, Siddharta Jain, and the District Revenue Officer, Ramakrishna Rao, took part.
Visits VSP
The panel also visited Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. At a meeting held at the plant, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of VSP, Y. Siva Sagar Rao, explained how the plant achieved the turnaround. The VSP officials made presentations on "Rehabilitation of displaced persons - efforts of Vizag Steel,'' "VSP's efforts towards the growth of small-scale and ancillary industries'' and "Expansion plans of VSP''. Earlier, the committee held discussions with the CMD, the Director (finance), P.K. Bishnoi, the Director (operations), K.K. Rao, and the Director (personnel), K. Ayyappa Naidu.
