HYDERABAD, FEB. 8. A 42-year-old rural primary school teacher, who was declared brain dead after a road accident, has gifted a new lease of life to five persons by donating organs. The Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network (MOHAN) Foundation, in a press release, said that V. Raghupathi Reddy, a primary schoolteacher in Aarepally village of Medak district, sustained a head injury when he met with an accident while riding on his motorcycle on February 3. He was shifted to Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad. On being declared brain dead, he was shifted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences at the instance of the family to facilitate the retrieval of organs. Raghupathi Reddy, who is survived by wife, a son and a daughter, was a member of Lions and Vasavi Clubs and an advocate of eye and organ donations, the release said. According to MOHAN Foundation, the eyes, liver and kidneys were harvested and given to hospitals in the city for transplantation.
