House panel on IMAX seeks clarification

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, FEB. 8. A meeting of the House Committee constituted to look into the alleged violation by Prasads, with its IMAX and multiplex theatres, saw the city police clarifying on the norms laid down on parking at the complex.

Among the officials present at Tuesday's meeting were the city Police Commissioner, V. Dinesh Reddy, and the Additional Commissioner (Traffic), Tejdeep Menon.

The clarifications apart, it is learnt that all the members including the Congress MLA, P. Janardhan Reddy, were interested in compiling their observations and coming to a decision at the earliest.

The TDP member, Payyavula Keshav, reportedly questioned as to how the authorities had imposed new norms for the IMAX complex with reference to parking of vehicles. As per law, for every 50 seats in a cinema hall, the management was required to provide parking for one car.

In this case, the Police Department reportedly asked the complex owners to reserve car parking for every 15 seats. He asked if the Government would go by the Act or follow the norms set by officials. The meeting felt that there should be uniform guidelines for all the commercial complexes with regard to vehicle parking.

Another issue that figured pertained to the width of the staircase leading to the theatre and whether or not sufficient fire safety measures had been followed. While the complex owners are understood to have followed the guidelines stipulated for cinema theatres, they were yet to get the go-ahead from the National Fire Safety Board.
