KOCHI, FEB. 8. The Kerala Lok Ayukta has directed the Secretary, Kochi City Corporation, to produce all documents relating to the actions taken by the civic body to protect Children's Park at Chullickal in Mattancherry and file an affidavit stating when he knew about the destruction of the park carried out by a councillor two years ago. The directions came on a petition filed by K. Prabhakaran, secretary, Swasraya Mattanchery. According to the complaint, the park was destroyed and trees cut and removed at the instance of Merlin Thomas, councillor. When this was carried out, the secretary who was legally bound to protect the park did not initiate action, the Lok Ayukta said. Though the Ombudsman had directed the secretary to file a complaint before the police, the latter showed scant respect to the direction. The Lok Ayukta pointed out that now in a statement of objection, he took the stand that renovation and cleaning of the park had been a long-standing demand of residents of the locality and the project for renovation of the parks was approved by the council. The Lok Ayukta said that he should at least have produced the resolution regarding the approval given by the corporation.
