BANGALORE, FEB. 8. The Lokayukta Police on Monday arrested the Principal of the Government Unani Medical College, Bangalore, Mohammed Mujeebur Rehman, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 from a student for granting him more marks in the examinations. According to a release from the Lokayukta, Rehman had allegedly demanded Rs. 50,000 from each of the final year Bachelor of Unani Medical Science (BUMS) students of the college promising them that full marks would be awarded to them in internal assessment test. He had also allegedly promised the students that they would be given more marks in theory and practical examinations scheduled from March 2, the release said. A student, Mohammed Adeebur Rehman, who was reportedly asked to pay the money, persuaded the principal to reduce the amount to Rs. 30,000 and later lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta. On Monday, the Lokayukta raided the principal's house in Munireddy Palya and caught him while he was allegedly taking the bribe from the complainant, it said. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
