This Day That Age
By developing the Indian universities in accordance with the spirit of our philosophy, religion and culture, a great contribution could be made to the fund of human wisdom, said the Rajpramukh of Mysore, inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of the Annamalai University in Annamalainagar on February 9. The Rajpramukh, who also unveiled a bronze statue of the founder of the University, Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar, paid a tribute to the brilliant record of achievements of the university in the field of learning and research during the past quarter of a century and said that he looked forward with great hope for even greater distinction in the years that lay ahead. Dr. A. Lakshmanaswami Mudaliar, Vice-Chancellor of the Madras University, who delivered the silver jubilee address, said that if there was to be a correct appreciation of the part that universities should play it should be realised that what the universities should attempt to do was to deal with the fundamentals and to train the mind in such a manner that it would be receptive to knowledge from any source and that it would develop the creative faculty in such a way that there would be no difficulty in easily acquiring whatever additional knowledge or training was needed for particular avocations to which a university graduate might be chosen.
