BrahMos in demand
By Divya Ramamurthi
BANGALORE,
FEB. 9.
Over 10 countries in the Asia Pacific region have shown interest in buying BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile developed as a joint venture with Russia, said the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BrahMos Aerospace, A. Sivathanu Pillai. He told The Hindu that discussions with these countries were in the preliminary stages. "We have spoken to a few potential companies. Now we will approach the two Governments for the go-ahead."
"The fact that India is not a signatory to the Intellectual Property Rights agreement should not deter the export possibilities of BrahMos. It is a joint venture project and the intellectual property is owned by the company and not the member nations," he said.
Mr. Pillai said he hoped that Aero India 2005 would provide a platform to sell BrahMos Aerospace. "We are ready to sell the cruise missile. That's why we are here."
BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from a submarine, a ship, an aircraft or from land-based mobile autonomous launchers.
