NEW DELHI, FEB. 9. Accessing even financial and other information on closely-held companies would just be a mouse click away once the ambitious project of the Ministry of Company Affairs (MCA) to turn paperless through its e-governance initiative is completed in the next 15 months. Talking to media persons after launching the Rs. 341-crore project awarded to a consortium of Tata controlled TCS-CMC, the Company Affairs Minister, Prem Chand Gupta, said that all documents filed by even the private companies, apart from the thousands of listed entities, would be available on one's computer free of cost for initial three years and on payment thereafter. Christened as "MCA-21", the project would connect the Ministry and all its regional offices and the 22 registrars of companies across the country with a centralised system to provide on-line information to all the stakeholders including public, financial institutions and companies. "MCA-21 is a unique initiative of the Ministry of Company Affairs that will provide facility of e-filing of returns to the corporate sector with online access to all information about companies, including that of the unlisted ones," Mr. Gupta said.
