ICNET to restart operations

CHENNAI: ICNET, which introduced electronic mail as a commercial proposition in the early `90s, has returned to business after many years under a High Court-induced revival package.

Addressing a press conference, C. Padmanabhan, Chairman and Managing Director, said a dispute with the Department of Telecommunications forced the company go out of operations on October 3, 1996. Subsequently, the creditors went to court, resulting in the closure the company. Following consensus among the parties concerned, a court-ordained revival package was accepted and approved to facilitate the re-start of the company, he said.
