Rupee declines further
MUMBAI,
FEB. 9.
The rupee today slipped to a nearly two-week closing low of 43.7350/7450 a dollar, succumbing to a late round of heavy short-covering, despite an early rally even as the dollar's recent overseas sharp gains took a breather. In generally quiet and range-bound trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee lost another 4-1/2 paise from Tuesday's close of 43.69/70 after an initial sharp rally to 43.64/65. It opened steady at 43.68/71.
Late dollar short-covering by corporates and importers exerted renewed pressure on the rupee after an early rally to 43.64/65 supported by exporter dollar sales and steady foreign fund inflows, dealers said.
The rupee tumbled by 20 paise yesterday to one-week closing low of 43.69/71 and has depreciated by 33 paise in four consecutive sessions PTI
