CHENNAI, FEB. 9. A therapeutic centre that offers a range of alternative medicine systems, including Ayurveda, pranic healing, music therapy and aromatherapy, was inaugurated at the Apollo Hospitals here today. The Apollo Wellness Plus also houses traditional methods of relaxation such as meditation, acupuncture and acupressure, besides a fully-equipped gymnasium. While it caters to people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, spondylitis and rheumatic disorders, a separate wing will work to rehabilitate patients recovering from acute illnesses, including cardiac ailments and surgery, neuro and pulmonary diseases. Besides, a range of services such as fitness through diet, exercise and stress management, extension of life and function through image enhancement and graceful aging programme, would be offered, said Srinidhi Chidambaram, consultant, Corporate Communications, Apollo Hospitals. Rekha Ganesan, the actress, inaugurated the facility at the Apollo Hospitals on Greames Lane. Receiving a lifetime membership card of the centre from the Hospital chairman, Prathap C. Reddy, she said she would like them to open a centre in Mumbai. Dr. Reddy said the mainstream medicine practised today would gradually become alternative medicine. The thrust of this centre would be to prevent and control diseases, offer rehabilitation medicine and promote general wellbeing. Hospitals in the West were diversifying into non-allopathic healthcare. The Wellness Plus would offer the best of the East and the West to go hand in hand in healthcare, he said. A team of 13 consultants, including a clinical neuropsychologist, a yoga consultant and a fitness trainer, headed by Prithika Chary, neurologist and neurosurgeon, will be in charge of the centre.
