CHENNAI, FEB. 9. The violin maestro, Kunnakudi R. Vaidhyanathan, was felicitated on the completion of 60 years of his musical career. The chairman of the Chennai Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, K.S. Bakthavatsalam, presiding over the function, described him as a musician who took Carnatic music to the common people. He acted as a bridge between the older and the younger generation, and tried to be innovative in his concerts. The director of Chennai Petroleum Corporation, L. Sabaretnam, asked Mr. Vaidhyanathan to involve the youth in his research on Carnatic music. The president of the Federation of the City Sabhas, R. Krishnaswamy, said Mr. Vaidhyanathan was a role model for young musicians. Cinema director Balu Mahendra and actor Vivek were among those who felicitated Mr. Vaidhyanathan. The Naadhabrahmam Music Journal, which organised the function, presented him a gold chain.
