TIRUVANNAMALAI, FEB. 10. The verification of door numbers, a key part of the summary revision of the voters list in nine Assembly constituencies of Tiruvannamalai district, is under way. The drive, which began on February 1, will continue till February 28. The Collector, Satyabrata Sahoo, said that in the first phase, verification officers (bill collectors in municipal areas, village administrative officers in rural areas) would conduct a door-to-door verification of door numbers as per the existing voters' lists from February 1 to 28. The drive is intended to register all citizens who turned 18 by January 1, 2005. They will gather details such as the old and new door numbers and the EPIC (Electors' Photo Identity Card) numbers. The voters would be able to exercise their franchise only if they furnish the details. In the case of new residential areas, if streets or areas were omitted in the existing lists, fresh applications for inclusion of names would be entertained in form no.6 and the names included in the revised lists, the release said. In the second phase, a door number-wise integrated voter list would be prepared and the draft electoral rolls published on April 20. In the third phase, the voters could verify the draft rolls and apply for inclusion/deletion of names or modification of details in the respective forms from April 20 to May 19. The voters could also submit the relevant applications through the Internet to the District Electoral Officer-cum-Collector of Tiruvannamalai during the period. The forms are available on the web site. Bulk applications for inclusion of omitted names or the names of new voters could be submitted only to the Electoral Registration Officers/Revenue Divisional Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers/Tahsildars and Municipal Commissioners, as per the conditions laid down by the Election Commission. The details of inclusion/deletion of names and modifications should be read out at grama sabha meetings or meetings of the urban local committees/residents' welfare associations between April 20 and May 19. Decisions on the applications for inclusion/deletion/modification would be made on June 20. The supplementary electoral list, incorporating the inclusions, deletions and modifications would be prepared and printed on July 20, while the final voters' list would be published on July 30.
