`Body to regulate TV channel programmes'

SRIKAKULAM, FEB. 10. A quasi-judicial autonomous body will be set up to regulate the contents of programmes produced by various TV channels. A Bill for this would be introduced.

Responding to questions on beaming of obscene films by TV channels and the demand for doing away with the practice of issuing censor certificates to films here on today, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Jaipal Reddy, said a Cabinet sub-committee had also been set up to review the Cinematographic Act to study the issues. There were complaints that undesirable programmes were beamed by TV channels. tory forces regarding this issue of beaming obscene films and issue of censor certificates, Mr. Reddy said, asserting, , that there was no country where there was no censorship and `some kind of censorship of films was necessary'.
