KOCHI, FEB. 10. Armed with a High Court order for evicting encroachments, the City Corporation authorities demolished several unauthorised structures along Thevara Perandoor Canal today. In the drive against encroachment that began at Giri Nagar this morning, 15 unauthorised structures were demolished. Each structure was found to have occupied around 1.5 cents without proper authorisation, said Corporation officials. According to the civic authorities, 30 persons have encroached on the banks of the canal in the Giri Nagar area alone. Several families had constructed toilets, boundary walls and structures for housing pets in the encroached area. A few huts built along the banks would also be removed, the authorities said. The Corporation had employed 18 labourers for demolishing unauthorised structures. The drive would continue in the coming days, said the officials.
