THRISSUR, FEB. 10. Two hundred and thirty-seven cases of jaundice have been reported from the district since the outbreak of the disease early this year. One person, from Arthat near Kunnamkulam, died of it. This was disclosed by district health authorities at a meeting convened by the District Collector, Premachandra Kurup, here today to assess the magnitude of jaundice outbreak in the district and the steps taken to contain it. According to the health authorities, more cases have been reported from areas such as Kunnamkulam town, Kattakampal, Chowannur, Arthat, Porkkulam, Choondal and Parappookkara. The meeting decided to super-chlorinate wells and other water sources in more areas in the district. A medical camp will be organised in Kunnamkulam town. Arrangements will be made to conduct blood tests at medical colleges in the district. The district panchayat president, N.K. Subramanian, the Additional District Magistrate, P. Rajan, the Revenue Divisional Officer, C.D. Kuriakkose, representatives from the Kunnamkulam, Chalakkudy, Irinjalakkuda, Kodungallur and Chavakkad municipalities and District Medical Officers of various medicine branches attended the meeting.
