ALAPPUZHA, FEB. 10. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will take steps to solve the problems being faced by the consumers of the mobile service of the company in three months, the BSNL chief general manager, Kerala, S.A. Thomas, has said. At a press conference here today, Mr. Thomas said that the company had a consumer base of 7.5 lakhs in the State. It will commission 70 new towers in the State by July this year for extending the coverage of its mobile network throughout the State. The proposed towers will be erected mostly at the small municipalities of the State and rural areas. Mr. Thomas said BSNL would provide three lakh new connections to consumers in the basic telephone sector (landlines) in the current financial year. He said the company had provided 2.5 lakh new landline connections till last month.
Launch of Data One
Mr. Thomas said Data One the broadband service of BSNL would be launched throughout the State soon. In the Alappuzha secondary switching area, the broadband service would be soon introduced in Alappuzha, Kaichoondy, Kalarkode, Cherthala, Kayamkulam and Mavelikara. Mr. Thomas said Data One would completely change the communication system. It would provide speed Internet surfing and downloading. Mr. Thomas said Data One would allow the customer to surf the Internet and conduct a telephone conversation simultaneously. Data One will offer separate tariff packages for domestic and commercial users. The BSNL Alappuzha general manager, P.V. Sebastian, also took part in the press conference.
