Further screening of `Tiruppachi' stayed

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, FEB. 10 . Further screening of the Vijay-starrer, `Tiruppachi', with certain objectionable scenes of the murder of a villain using a home insecticide, has been stayed by the Madras High Court.

Justice R. Balasubramanian granted the interim stay on an application filed by Godrej Sara Lee Limited, manufacturers of the insecticide, `Hit.'

The company said that immediately after the release of the film last month, several persons inquired about two specific scenes — one involving a pregnant woman and the other a villain. "We were shocked to notice disparaging scenes, in which `Hit' has been scandalously depicted with an oblique motive to tarnish its image," it said. The content of the scenes was highly defamatory, prejudicial, offensive and slanderous. It sought to restrain Super Good Films from exhibiting and screening of the film with the "disparaging scenes."
