Vijayawada
By G. Ravikiran
VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 10. The `eSeva', a State-wide facility offering different Government services under one roof, is ready to accept BSNL telephone bills at its 10 centres in the city. The moment the BSNL's (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) Hyderabad headquarters gives its nod, the eSeva will add accepting telephone bills as another service to its long list. There is already a tie-up between eSeva and BSNL for this facility in the State capital. "Here also, we are ready to begin the service anytime. The software is ready and what remains is only getting the signal from BSNL," says B.V. Narasimha Rao, eSeva District Coordinator, Krishna district. He has told The Hindu that there is a greater potential for extending eSeva operations in view of growing patronage from the general public. According to Mr. Rao, Krishna district eSeva centres have been maintaining their record of registering the largest number of transactions in the State for over six months.
Transactions
The eSeva centres in the city handle over 2.8 lakh transactions on an average every month while the number is somewhere around 11 lakhs in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. "Going by population, our city records largest number of transactions," says Mr. Rao. If BSNL bills are accepted at eSeva counters, it will be a big relief to both BSNL customers as well as the staff manning its bill payment counters. The rush at BSNL counters during the last two days of payment is indeed very high every month and the counters have to remain open till 8 p.m. and sometimes it is 9 p.m. This kind of a situation may be avoided to a large extent if eSeva centres accept telephone bills.
Top among ten
The Patamata eSeva centre records the largest number of transactions among the 10 centres in the city. The centre deals with over 1,000 transactions per day. The eSeva Patamata centre manager, G.P. Rao, says that 70 per cent of these transactions relate to electricity bills. There is a heavy rush in the middle and end of every month because of last dates for payment of electricity bills usually fall around these days. Besides electricity bills, the eSeva centres are accepting payment of municipal and road taxes. They also accept AirTel and Tata Telecom bills. Efforts are on to sell milk cards of Vijaya Dairy. The eSeva centres in the city are selling passport application forms at Rs. 10 each.
