MYSORE, FEB. 10. A marriage between the spiritual East and the scientific West could provide an answer to the problems of mankind, said the President of the Church of Scientology International, Heber C. Jentzch. Participating in Sri Shivarathreshwara Shivayogigala Jathra Mahothsava at Suttur here last night, Rev. Jentzch expressed his conviction that the spiritual East and the scientific West held an answer to the problems of mankind. Describing himself as an ambassador of the religious philosophy of scientology, Rev. Jentzch quoted the founder of Scientology, Ron Hubbard, who visited India in the previous century, to remark, "spiritual East was filled with wisdom, but suffered from poverty and sickness. The scientific West, though it had mastered these problems, was spiritually dead." Ron Hubbard had wondered whether it was the spiritual East or the scientific West that had an answer to mankind. These thoughts occurred to Hubbard in the 1920s when he visited India, China, Mongolia and Japan. On his return to America, Rev. Jentzch said, Hubbard began thinking on these lines and delved deep into the heart of the spiritual East. After studying various cultures during his travels, Hubbard was able to discover that man, whether in the East or the West, is driven by common dynamics. Rev. Jentzch paid his reverence to Shivarathreshwara Shivayogi Swamiji. He paid tributes to Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji by commenting that the "spirit and wisdom of your founder is carried forward today by your holiness." The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Krishna; Sri Chennabasava Rajendra Swamiji of Gavi Mutt Samsthana; the Managing Director of the State Bank of Mysore, Y. Vijayananda, the MLA, Mahima Patel, and the former Mayor participated in the function. Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt graced the occasion.
