NEW DELHI, FEB. 10. The second edition of the North-East Trade Expo featuring the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura will be organised at Pragati Maidan here from March 7 to 14. Handicrafts, horticulture/floriculture, hand-made paper, jute products, industrial products, handlooms, travel and tourism, fruits, carpets, petroleum products, bamboo and cane furniture and spices would be some of the items displayed at the expo. Speciality cuisines of the North-East will be an added attraction for food lovers. Seminars, workshops, cultural shows, an art gallery and a presentation of fabrics and garments will also be part of the trade expo. The event, being organised by the Ministry of Development of North-East Region (DONER) in association with India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), seeks to project business opportunities in the North Eastern region, facilitate promotion of tourism and also publicise the colourful spectrum of the region. A Memorandum of Understanding which was signed between the DONER and ITPO in the Capital today assumes significance in view of the Government's thrust on promotion of the North-Eastern region and its industry. The first edition of the North-East Trade Expo in March 2004 featured 110 companies from public and private sectors and attracted about 5,000 businessmen and several visitors from overseas.
