NEW DELHI, FEB. 10. The Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi, B.L. Joshi, today emphasised the need to adopt a modern and reliable security system rather than taking damage control measures arising out of a security lapse. Inaugurating the two-day 12th international conference of the Asian Professional Security Association (APSA) on the theme "Security Management In Digital Age" here, Mr. Joshi said there was a need for updating, development and absorption of newer and better technical skills in the area of digital security. "Indian companies have set-up green field ventures and have also acquired businesses overseas in the last couple of years. The challenge for protection of research designs, industrial secrets on computers and similar information have become very important with industrial growth," said Mr. Joshi. Stating that tremendous advances have been made in the West in the field of Information Technology application to transmissions of digital data, Mr. Joshi said both Government and industry would have to upgrade security of the data transfer on the wires as well as through satellites. The conference will deliberate on various aspects of security and protection of industry with a focus on digital security, terrorism, explosion, detection, CCTV and surveillance, fire and disaster management. About 400 delegates from nine countries are expected to attend this conference.
