BHEL's new technology

NEW DELHI FEB. 10. For enhancing power transfer capability and reducing transmission losses in 400 kV lines, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has developed a new series compensation scheme known as Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), heralding a new era of power transmission in India. The concept is on display at the ongoing 16th International Engineering and Technology Fair 2005, an international exhibition focusing on infrastructure sectors, being held at the Pragati Maidan.

BHEL has established the technology, developed in-house, with the successful execution of the second phase (variable compensation) of the project for Power Grid's Kanpur-Ballabhgarh 400 kV line. Significantly, this is the sixth such project in the world, enabling India to join a select group of countries possessing `FACTS' technology. Phase-I of this prestigious project was completed earlier by BHEL at Power Grid's Ballabhgarh substation.

Vishnu Sahasranama Satsangam

NEW DELHI FEB.10. The 37th anniversary celebrations of Vishnu Sahasranama Satsangam, R.K. Puram, here will be held on February 12 and 13 at Sankara Vidya Kendra in Vasant Vihar with Vishnu Sahasranama and Lalitha Sahasranama parayanams.

According to the Trustee, T. Subramanian, the Satsangam was formed in February 1968 by V. Ramanatha Iyer and a few others to bring devotees together for group recitation of Vishnu Sahasranamam on Sundays. Over the past 37 years there has been an uninterrupted weekly recitation with multi-crore chanting of divine namas. On February 12, Justice B.N. Srikrishna of the Supreme Court will release a book, "Ashta Vakra Gita", followed by a rendering of Tiruppugazh by A.S. Raghavan.

New CMD for PFC

NEW DELHI FEB. 10. Arvind Jadhav has assumed charge as Chairman and Managing Director of the Power Finance Corporation. Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Power, Mr. Jadhav has been the Government-nominated Director on PFC's board since May 2002. He is also a Director on the boards of NTPC, REC and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. as the Government nominee.

Registration centre opened

NEW DELHI FEB. 10. The computerised death registration centre set-up by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi at the graveyard -- behind Indian Express building -- on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg became operational today.

A simple function was organised at the site where the Delhi Transport and Electricity Minister, Haroon Yusuf, was the chief guest. The Deputy Mayor, Ramesh Dutta, presided over the function.

Water supply to be hit

NEW DELHI FEB. 10. Due to repair work of water mains of Hassanpur reservoir by the Delhi Jal Board -- being carried out at Mandir Marg and Nizamuddin Bridge of Bhagirathi treatment plant -- there will no water supply in large parts of the Capital on February 11 (evening) and February 12 (morning). According to a New Delhi Municipal Council release, the Prime Minister Residence Complex, Gymkhana Club, the entire Vinay Marg, Satya Marg, Satya Sadan, Diplomatic Area, Sarojini Nagar, Laxmibai Nagar, Malcha Marg, Yashwant Place Market, Prithviraj Road, Union Public Service Commission would face shortage of water.

The other areas that would face shortage of water supply include Kashmir House, Sena Bhawan, Hotel Taj Man Singh, Tamil Nadu House, New Bihar Bhawan, South Avenue, Mother Teresa Crescent, Janpath, Krishna Menon Marg, entire Pandara Road area, Dr. Zakir Hussain Marg, Subramnia Bharti Marg, Golf Links, Khan Market, Sujan Singh Park and Delhi High Court.
