NEW DELHI, FEB. 10. The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has stepped in to end the 15-year-long uncertainty faced by displaced teachers of the University of Kashmir. The universities where they have been teaching on an year-to-year basis under the University Grants Commission's Scheme of Visiting Faculties have been asked to absorb them with all benefits against existing vacancies by mid-March. Orders to this effect were issued by UGC on January 12 after the Ministry directed it to make provisions for absorbing the displaced university teachers. Since their migration from the strife-torn State in 1989-90, the teachers have been working in various colleges and universities across the country under the Scheme of Visiting Faculties introduced in 1991. However, since the scheme was being extended on a year-to-year basis, they were denied promotion and all allowances. As per the Ministry's instructions, UGC advised all universities concerned to take necessary steps to absorb the teachers within two months and end the uncertainty that had become part of their professional life.
