NEW DELHI, FEB. 10. The Home Minister, Shivraj Patil, today said that the Nanavati Commission report, which was submitted to him yesterday, would be made public in "due course" of time and there was "nothing to hide" in it. "There is nothing of which we can be shy of because we know how we had conducted ourselves, how our leaders had conducted themselves. There is nothing to hide," Mr. Patil told reporters here. Asked when would the report be made public, he said a set procedure had to be followed and such inquiry reports are made public after being examined by the Government. The Government then gives the Action Taken Report (ATR), he added. However, sources said the report would be placed before Parliament first. The two-volume report into the post-Indira Gandhi assassination anti-Sikh riots in 1984 was presented to the Home Minister yesterday by Justice (Retd.) G.T. Nanavati who conducted the inquiry.
Calls on Sonia
Mr. Patil called on the Congress president and United Progressive Alliance chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, here. Home Ministry sources described the meeting as "unscheduled," and did not comment on what transpired at the meeting. The discussion between Ms. Gandhi and Mr. Patil are believed to have included the Naga talks and the Nanavati Commission report, besides other domestic issues. UNI
