Bullets not removed from Geelani's body?

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 10 . Two days after he was shot at near the house of his lawyer at Vasant Enclave in South-West Delhi, the bullets are apparently still embedded in Syed Abdul Rahman Geelani's body.

This is perhaps why the Crime Branch today requested setting up of a medical board to ascertain the nature of his injuries.

After being rushed to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Mr. Geelani was operated upon in the early hours of Wednesday.

While the two-line statement issued by the hospital authorities said Mr. Geelani was stable and out of danger after being operated upon for multiple gunshot injuries, there was no mention about the bullets.

For their part, family members of Mr. Geelani said they were only concerned about his well-being and that the doctors had not revealed anything about the bullets.

However, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ranjit Narain, today said no bullets had been removed from Mr. Geelani's body so far according to information available with him.

The police, however, claimed that the doctors were yet to provide more information to them.
