BANGALORE, FEB. 10. Two men assaulted an automobile consultant and robbed him of a gold chain and a mobile phone near Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday night. They also drove away on his motorcycle. The police said that L. Kennedy of Nethravathi Layout in K.R. Puram had advertised in a newspaper that those interested in buying and selling of vehicles can contact him. A person telephoned him on Wednesday evening and told him that he wanted to buy two cars. Later, Kennedy met him and his friend at a bar-cum-restaurant in Gandhinagar. After having liquor, the three drove on Kennedy's motorcycle. Around 9.45 p.m. on reaching Gopala Gowda circle near Vidhana Soudha, one of the two who was riding pillion, took Kennedy's mobile phone to a make a call. As Kennedy slowed the vehicle, the two assaulted him and relieved him of the gold chain. They escaped on Kennedy's motorcycle, the police said. The Vidhana Soudha police have registered a case.
Pedestrian killed
An unidentified woman pedestrian aged around 45 was killed after she was hit by a lorry on Nagavara Ring Road, off Lingeshwara Ganapathi temple, around 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Fraser Town traffic police have registered a case.
Suffer burns
Manjula (40) suffered burns after she set herself on fire at her house at A.M. Lane in Tigalarpet on Wednesday night. Her husband, Venkatalinga Murthy, also suffered burns while rescuing her, the police said. The two have been admitted to Victoria Hospital. Manjula attempted suicide as she was ill for some time, the police said. The Ulsoor Gate police have registered a case.
Cash recovered
The Peenya police recovered Rs.7 lakhs that was stolen from Hanuman Weaving Factory on February 3. The police said K.S. Umesh (19), an employee of the factory, had stolen the cash that was kept in an almirah. He was arrested on the basis of the fingerprints found on the almirah, the police said.
Arrested
The Nelamangala police on Thursday arrested Ramesh alias "Cable" Ramesh (31) of Kempapura Agrahara on the charge of murdering Ramesh alias "Huttadha" Ramesh (41). The latter's partially burnt body was found at Karekal Cross on Kunigal Road on Tuesday. The police said that following a land dispute "Cable" Ramesh and others had taken the victim to Karekal Cross in a car and murdered him on Monday night. The New Tharagupet police on Tuesday arrested two persons and recovered from them electric cables worth Rs. 10 lakhs. The names of the arrested were given as Maniklal (30) of Pali district in Rajasthan and Nakshad (25) of Faizabad district in Uttar Pradesh. The two, who were staying in a lodge on Mysore Road here, had allegedly stolen the cables from New Tharagupet police station limits.
Recovered
The Kadugondanahalli police on Wednesday arrested two persons and recovered from them hardware goods worth Rs. 35,000. The arrested, Yonus Pasha (26) of Gurappanapalya and Abdul Wahab (26) of Vinobanagar, were involved in two cases of burglary reported from Wilson Garden police station limits, the police said. The Viveknagar police on February 7 arrested Rajesh (19) of Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu and recovered from him two motorcycles that he had allegedly stolen from areas under their jurisdiction. The RMC Yard police on February 7 arrested Satish S. Khare (25) of Basaveshwaranagar and recovered from him 30 mobile phones worth Rs. 2 lakhs. The police said they caught Satish while he was selling mobile phones at Goruguntepalya traffic junction. They said he had stolen the mobile phones from his friends and acquaintances.
