VIJAYAWADA, FEB. 10. An attempt was made on the life of a girl student by one, Naga Babu, on Thursday. The man was accused of teasing the girl for some time. He pounced on her near an STD booth when she was making a call. The girl chided him for his "misbehaviour." Enraged by this, he allegedly held her head and banged it against a wall, according to the Patamata police. The girl was sent to hospital for first aid and discharged later. She is a student of the para-medical diploma course in medical sciences in the college. The man, who was said to be in an inebriated condition, was sent for medical examination and cases under Sections 354 and 324 of the IPC were booked against him. The police are investigating the case. In a separate incident, a mentally-challenged girl was molested by a person in Gannavaram. The police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
Huts gutted
About 30 thatched houses were gutted at Kanuru village on the outskirts of the city when a fire broke from a house. Fire tenders were pressed into service. The loss is being estimated.
Satyam in police custody
Koganti Satyanarayana alias Satyam, the city-based industrialist, who is facing charges of attempt to murder the TDP leader, Katragadda Babu, was taken in police custody for questioning for seven hours. The Metropolitan Magistrate granted the plea of the police to take Satyam into custody for questioning. Satyam was released on a bail a week ago.
