THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 10. The Regional Intelligence Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) here has seized 2.5 kg of heroin valued at nearly Rs. 3 crores from near the Thampanoor bus stand here. The NCB has arrested Ghani Ibrahim, 50, and Meera Moideen, 40, in connection with the seizure. The accused had purchased the drug from Rajasthan, an official said. They were taking it to the Tamil Nadu coast for shipment to Sri Lanka when they were held on the basis of intelligence information. The two were produced before the court on charge of violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and remanded to 14 days' judicial custody.
Youth held
The Rural Police on Thursday arrested a youth in connection with several thefts, including those of costly mobile phones in the district. The Circle Inspector, Kazhakkuttom, P. Reghu, identified the accused as Subash Chandran, 21. Several mobile telephone thefts, burglaries and thefts at shops in the city had been detected following the arrest, he said. Subash was produced before the court and remanded to 14 days' judicial custody.
